Stay updated with real-time insights from the Louisiana marsh. Our reports provide the latest information on water levels, tidal movements, and where the bite is strongest in the Barataria Basin to help you plan your next outing.

Trophy Fish Caught

Recent excursions have yielded impressive results as we move through the spring transition. We are seeing a significant influx of trophy fish throughout the marsh, with bull redfish pushing into the deeper passes and slot-sized reds feeding aggressively along the grassy shorelines. Our latest reports show a steady bite for high-quality speckled trout and oversized black drum. While we don't target offshore tropical fish, the diversity of our local saltwater species—including flounder and sheepshead—is currently at a seasonal peak. Anglers using gold spoons and live shrimp under popping corks have been rewarded with several record-sized catches this week.

We believe the best memories are made on the water, which is why we specialize in family-friendly fishing trips. Our adventures are designed to be easy-going and fun, catering specifically to the needs of younger anglers and beginners. Barataria Bay Waterway - Jefferson, LA Inshore Report on 16th Apr, 2026

The inshore fishing in Lafitte, Louisiana remains productive as we navigate the spring season. We are currently seeing consistent action across the Louisiana marsh, with water temperatures stabilizing and baitfish becoming more abundant throughout the Barataria Basin. Redfish have been the primary highlight of our recent private fishing charters. We are finding success targeting these bronze beauties along the grass edges and shallow ponds. Most of our recent catches have come from a combination of gold spoons and market shrimp under a popping cork. The "bull" reds are starting to show up more frequently in the deeper passes, providing excellent sport for our guests. Speckled trout are also making a strong showing. While the bite is most aggressive during the early morning saltwater fishing charters, we are still landing quality fish on our afternoon trips. We’ve had the best luck using soft plastics in lime and pearl colors, especially when fishing over oyster reefs where the current is moving steadily. Other Species: In addition to the redfish and trout, our coastal marsh is yielding a healthy variety of black drum, sheepshead, and the occasional flounder. These species are congregating around structure and deeper holes, responding well to bottom-rigged natural baits. Current Conditions & Outlook: The water clarity in the surrounding marshes has been excellent, allowing for some great sight-fishing opportunities. As we move further into the month, we expect the speckled trout numbers to increase as they begin their seasonal migration. Whether you are looking for a half-day fishing charter in Lafitte, LA or a full day on the water, now is an ideal time to get out and experience the marsh. The bite is steady, and the weather has been favorable for navigating our Blazer Bay Boat into the heart of the action.
