Meet Captain Austin Phillips

Expert Guidance in the Heart of the Louisiana Marsh

Captain Austin Phillips was born and raised with the Louisiana marsh as his backyard, developing a deep-seated connection to the waters of Lafitte from a very young age. His journey into the world of professional guiding was fueled by a lifelong obsession with the tidal movements and seasonal patterns of the Barataria Basin. Over the years, Austin has transformed his personal passion into a career, gaining a reputation for his patient approach and his ability to read the water in ways that only a true local can. For Austin, a day on the water is about more than just the harvest; it is about sharing the unique heritage and natural beauty of the Louisiana wetlands with every person who steps onto his deck.

With a wealth of experience navigating the complex labyrinth of bayous and grass flats, Captain Austin has mastered the nuances of targeting the region's premier game fish. He specializes in the technical aspects of inshore fishing, from the subtle art of sight-casting for redfish in skinny water to locating schools of speckled trout over submerged oyster reefs. His expertise is built on thousands of hours spent observing how salinity, wind, and moon phases impact the bite. This extensive knowledge allows him to adapt quickly to changing conditions, ensuring that his guests are always in the best position to experience the thrill of a strike.

What truly sets Captain Austin apart is his commitment to providing a welcoming and educational environment for anglers of all skill levels. Whether he is teaching a child how to cast their first line or discussing advanced lure presentations with a seasoned pro, his calm demeanor and clear communication build immediate trust. He takes great pride in being an ambassador for the Lafitte fishing community, prioritizing safety and conservation to ensure the fishery remains vibrant for generations to come. When you spend a day with Austin, you aren't just hiring a guide; you are gaining access to years of hard-earned local wisdom and a genuine friend on the water.

The 24' Blazer Bay Boat

To provide the most stable and efficient platform for exploring the marsh, Captain Austin operates a professional-grade 24' Blazer Bay. This vessel is specifically designed for the diverse demands of the Louisiana coast, featuring a shallow draft that allows it to glide into backwater ponds while maintaining a smooth, dry ride across open bays. Powered by a high-performance 250hp Yamaha outboard, the boat ensures that travel time is minimized so that fishing time is maximized. The spacious, non-cluttered deck offers plenty of room for up to four anglers to fish comfortably, and it comes equipped with the latest navigational technology and safety gear. Maintaining a clean and organized boat is a point of pride for the Captain, reflecting the high standard of quality he brings to every adventure.
